Destinations & Open Days

Future Destinations

There are a variety of destinations available for young people with SEND after school. These include colleges and day centres, as well as residential provisions. It is important to consider your options before expressing your preference to SENDAR. Below is a directory of specialist provisions for young people with SEND, which may be useful:

College Open Days

We advise parents to visit colleges/other settings, where possible, to get a feel for the environment and whether it would suit your young person and meet their needs. There are open days for most settings- many are listed below. Alternatively, you can contact the setting directly to make an appointment to view and meet with staff. You may choose to do this with or without your young person.

If you would like to take your young person to view a setting during the school day so that you can see it ‘in action’ (as it would be when they attend). We can authorise this- please just let us know.

What can college offer young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities?

If you are not sure what college can offer young people with SEND or how college differs from school, you may find this leaflet aimed at young people and their families useful. It was developed in 2021 by a group of local authorities, specialist and general FE colleges in the South East of England, but the content is relevant across England: SE19-SEND Network Further Education Resource
